I’m often asked whether or not this or that time is a good time to invest. For example, with the market being as high as it is now, I have encountered reticence about investing in equities, or even investing at all. In response to this, I rely on the old adage, “it’s not timing the market, it’s time in the market.” When buying stocks, we look to invest in solid companies for the long term. When is the right time to buy shares of a good company with a long-term history of success? The right answer is almost always “whenever you have the money available.” If you are properly investing according to your risk tolerance and for the long term, leave the current state of the Dow to the headlines.
