The Renaissance returns

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival returns to Arrington, Tenn. Saturday with special events continuing through Memorial Day.

Among the many medieval happening, visitors will have the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth I and the royal court, tour Castle Gwynn, enjoy live entertainment, see Robin Hood, hear Shakespearean-era music, shop for authentic artisan wares and crafts, and taste succulent foods and drink.

Visitors can also support a worthy cause by bringing a sack of canned goods for the Second Harvest Foodbank. The Tennessee National Guard will collect donations at the Second Harvest Foodbank truck near the Festival front gate entrance, where visitors will receive a thank you and a festival token.

 

Food

Whole turkey legs plus tempting treats from all the ages. Fish-n-chips, shepherd’s pie, chicken fingers, meat on a stick, pastries and pies.

Games

Man-powered rides and games from the Middle Ages – archery, axe throwing, a twisting maze and more

Event Happenings

May 5 – 6: Opening weekend family discount celebration. Bring the family and celebrate the opening of the 2012 festival. With the purchase of two regularly priced adult tickets, two grandparents and all children age 12 and under will receive free admission, for opening weekend only.

This discount is only available at the festival ticket office on May 5 and 6, and cannot be combined with any other discounts or offers.

May 12 – 13: Mother’s Day weekend Sunday, May 13: Married couples are welcome to participate in the vow renewal ceremony and reaffirm their commitment to one-another. The vow renewal ceremony location and time will be posted at the Information/T-Shirt Booth (the first tent as you enter the festival). There is no additional cost to participate in this ceremony.

May 19 – 20: Pirate Invasion Weekend. The hills are swarming with rascals and rogues as a crew of scuvry pirates invade the shire of Covington Glen. See the swashbuckling and sword brandishing of pirates galore. Children Rascals and Pirates aged 12 and under can participate in the Children’s Pirate Costume Contest on both May 19 and May 20. Contest location and time will be posted at our Information/T-Shirt Booth.

May 26 – 27 – 28: Royal jousting tournament weekend as jousters from far and wide come to vie for top honors – The Free Lancers 2012 Gath of Baal Jousting Tournament is underway. Competitors from afar compete in full armored contact jousting. The challenges and competition are Saturday and Sunday, with the final competition on Memorial Day Monday,
