Tullahoma recorded its second straight District 8-AAA golf victory by topping visiting Franklin County 148-171 on Tuesday in a nine-hole match at Lakewood Golf & Country Club.
Hunter Statum broke out of a mini-slump for the Wildcats and fired a 32, five strokes better than his closest competitor, which was teammate Carson Bishop, who shot a 37. Tullahoma’s Darrick Fisher, back from a weeklong tournament in Memphis, carded a 39 to tally the third lowest score of the day.
Tullahoma’s final score game from Brett Schmit, who added a 40. The 44 of Andy Shahan and the 51 of Daniel Oswalt didn’t county toward the team score.
Chase Wheeler and Grant Gipson each turned in a 40 for the Rebels’ two lowest scores. Justin Smith had a 43, while Samuel Penny and John Turner each finished with a 48, 16 strokes back of Statum’s blistering pace.
Because Franklin County had no girls golfing, there were no official girls scores. Tullahoma teammates Ellen Morataya and Brooke Thomas played a nine-hole round together.
On Thursday afternoon, Tullahoma’s boys beat Shelbyville 161-172 at Lakewood.
The Wildcats will play at The Bear Trace on Aug. 21.
