Darrick Fisher’s scores during the last two weeks may not have reflected how well the Tullahoma High School golfer has been playing. Friday, the THS senior got the result he’s been looking for.

Fisher fired a 3-under-par 69 at the 6,403-yard Smyrna Municipal Golf Course to win the Region 4-AAA tournament and advance to the TSSAA State Tournament, which is scheduled for Sept. 25-26 at WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester.

Fisher finished one shot better than Siegel’s Arjuna Anday and four shots ahead of Blackman’s Tanner Owens (73). Smyrna’s Zack Haynes and Lawrence County’s Parks Hartsfield each shot 73 as well.

“Today the course fit him really well,” said Tullahoma head coach Sam Melton. “He had three birdies on the first nine holes. He was able to hit his driver and still be a good distance to hit a good second shot.

“Darrick putted really well. We came over on Thursday for a practice round and he played well. That carried over to today. He was able to beat one of the top 25 players in the Southeast, Arjuna Anday, and that just shows you what a good golfer he is and how capable he is.”

Anday, considered one of the mid-state’s best golfers, helped lead the Stars to the overall team title and a berth in the state tournament. Siegel’s top for golfers each shot in the 70s as the Stars finish with a 301. Lawrence County finished second with a 307, while Tullahoma was 14 strokes back of the winners with a 315.

Smyrna (322), Oakland (332) and Lincoln County (343) completed the six-team field.

Tullahoma’s Hunter Statum and Brett Schmitt each carded a 78, while Carson Bishop shot 90 and Andy Shahan 91. Only the top four scores count toward the team title.

The girls portion of the region tournament went late into the afternoon on Friday. Tullahoma’s Ellen Morataya was able to finish early. She had a 110. Teammate Brooke Thomas had a 120.
