Road construction won’t delay Memorial Day travelers

NASHVILLE – Road construction won’t slow motorists down as they travel Tennessee’s highways this Memorial Day weekend. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at noon Friday through 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Roosevelt signed the TVA Act into law on May 18, 1933. The utility, which is a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides wholesale power to nine million customers through its distributors in parts of seven southeastern states. It is celebrating its 80th anniversary this week.

    A young child in a tiny village outside of Coban, Guatemala eats the leftovers from a meal provided by the elders of a church. The increase of corn exports coupled with drought-like conditions is making it difficult for families to feed their children.
