Burks to play in all-star game

Following a strong senior season, Amauri Burks was selected to represent Tullahoma during the 2017 Toyota East-West Football All-Star Classic taking place on Friday.

The teams are compromised of the top seniors from around the state and players are selected by the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association. Burks was selected as cornerback for the East team.

This year’s game will take place on Friday at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium in Clarksville. Kickoff of the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and is $10 for ages 3 and up to attend, and free with a military ID. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN 3 or watchespn.com.

Last month, Burks was also named as the Region 4-4A Athlete of the Year. Burks played all three sides of the ball for the Wildcats, lining up at running back, cornerback and even returning kickoffs and punts.

In his senior season, Burks rushed for 839 yards and seven touchdowns on 127 carries. The Region 4-4A Athlete of the Year was also a primary target for his quarterback, hauling in 37 catches for 602 yards and seven scores.

On the defensive end, Burks finished with 32 tackles and a fumble recovery. Burks also returned punts and kicks for the Wildcats, generating a total of 251 return years, including a touchdown off of a punt against Marshall County on Sept. 2.
