Holiday Foods, Are They Safe for Our Pets?

Pet Medical Center 300x250 DVM

We’ve all heard about animals getting sick after eating jerky type treats. According to the FDA, there have been reports of 3,600 dogs and 10 cats that have become sickened after consuming jerky treats since 2007 resulting in the death of 580 of those pets. The majority of those treats implicated were manufactured in China. Be cautious when feeding jerky treats to your pets and don’t feed products made in China. For more information, go to www.fda.gov.

Also – don’t forget that the holidays are just around the corner, which means lots of fun with family and lots of good food! Our pets are family, too, so they are just as deserving of a nice meal, but be careful about the foods you give them. Many of our everyday foods can be poisonous or harmful to animals such as chocolate, grapes, raisins, avocado, onions, fat trimmings and bones, among many more! We see a lot of pets with upset stomachs around the holidays so make sure to do your research before you spoil your pet with a holiday treat. Happy Holidays!
