Lily Jenkins was the first Tullahoma runner since 2011 to compete in the TSSAA State Meet after she completed her run at the Steeplechase in Brentwood on Nov. 4.
Jenkins, a senior at Tullahoma High School, was the first THS runner in the meet since Eric Nelius competed at state in 2011. Jenkins finished 119th out of 192 runners in the Division 1 Large School Division. Jenkins competed her 3.1-mile run in 22 minutes and 12.08 seconds.
Dobyns Bennett’s Sasha Neglia won the overall race with a time of 18:15.71. Cookeville’s Landri Wilcox took second place overall, clocking in at 18:34.93. Anderson County’s Maddy Moody rounded out the top three performers with a time of 18:51.53.
Jenkins earned a spot in the state competition based on her performance at the Region 4 Cross-County meet in Columbia on Oct. 26. The top 10 performers in the Maury Park run qualified for the state meet.
Jenkins finished that 3.1-mile course in 22:13.78, finishing eighth overall. The winning time from that race belonged to Siegel’s Rachel Strayer, who clocked in at 20:19.10. Siegel also had the second-place finisher as Marilyn McCarthy finished at 20:39.10. Oakland’s Breja Smith nabbed third at 21.11.71.
