Lady Wildcats notch 65-39 road win

After a close start to the contest, Tullahoma seized control in the second period after putting up 23 points in the quarter, running away with a 65-39 victory at Columbia on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats (14-13, 5-6) had three players reach double figures on the night, led by Julia Duncan who put up 22 points in the victory. Macey Bowman added 13 points of her own, while Jessica Edde totaled 10 points.

Duncan and CeCe Smith were the only two Tullahoma players to get into the scoring column in the first quarter on Tuesday. Duncan put up nine points in the period, while Smith added five points of her own. Each player knocked down a 3-pointer in the quarter, putting the Lady Wildcats up 14-10 heading into the second.

Tullahoma was able to spread the ball around in the second quarter as six players put up points in the period. While the offense got rolling, the Lady Wildcats’ defense tightened up, limiting Columbia to just eight points in the quarter.

Bowman led the way for the Tullahoma with seven points in the quarter, knocking down three free throws and a pair of baskets. Edde added six points of her own, while Duncan scored four points. Olivia McCreary, Tyana Hardin and Erin Fitzgerald each added two points in the quarter, putting the Lady Wildcats up 37-18 at halftime.

Tullahoma’s defense again tightened up in the third quarter, holding Columbia to just seven points in the period. The Lady Wildcats managed to put up 12 points in the third, led by Bowman and Edde who each scored four points. McCreary and Duncan each put up two points, and Tullahoma led 49-25 heading into the final quarter.

Duncan led the Lady Wildcats with seven of the team’s 16 fourth-quarter points, including burying a 3-pointer. Robin Smedley, McKenna Buckner, McCreary and Bowman each put up two points, while Smith added a free throw.

While Duncan, Bowman and Edde each put up double figures, McCreary and Smith both finished with six points on the night for Tullahoma. Fitzgerald, Hardin, Buckner and Smedley each totaled two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wildcats.

With Tuesday’s win, Tullahoma completed the season sweep of the Lady Lions after previously defeating Columbia 65-39 on Monday night.

Tullahoma will close out the regular season with a home game against Franklin County on Friday. Tipoff of the girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the boys contest taking place at approximately 7:30 p.m. In between Friday’s games, the senior members of each team and cheerleaders will be honored.
