The Tullahoma Kmart store at 1806 N. Jackson St. will be closing Jan. 28.
The location is one of 45 “unprofitable stores” in the retail chain scheduled to close in late January, according to a news release issued Thursday by parent company Sears Holding Corporation.
The move keeps stores open through the holiday season, though liquidation sales may begin as early as next week.
Associates at all impacted stores were informed of the closures Thursday.
The manager at the Tullahoma store was unavailable for comment on the number of employees impacted by the closure, but in the release Sears Holding Corp. noted that all eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at are Kmart or Sears stores.
According to kmart.com, the nearest Kmart store not scheduled for closure is in Lebanon.
Two additional Tennessee Kmart stores are scheduled for closure – one on Donelson Pike in Nashville and the other on South Jefferson Avenue in Cookeville.
Sears Holding Corporation is also closing 18 Sears stores. None of those stores are in Tennessee.
