Twelve Tullahoma High School swimmers competed at the Middle Tennessee High School Region Swim Championships in Nashville on Jan. 27.
Lily Jenkins, Willow Hobbs, Lainey Harding, Topaz Fragosa, Bradley Holmes, Clay Bailey, Ethan Sherrer, Liam Waggoner, Caleb Purdue, Asher Redd, Zachary Poland and Matthew Collier all competed at regionals held at Centennial Sportsplex. Gracie King and Cody Bailey were unable to compete due to injury.
Jenkins placed seventh in the girls 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes and 17.75 seconds. She also finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.71.
Holmes took 17th in the boys 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 23.53. He also took 20th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.03.
Clay Bailey finished 30th in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:00.96. He additionally finished 31st in the 100 backstroke at 1:04.51.
Harding finished 74th in the 100 backstroke, finishing at 1:16.93.
In the boys 100 freestyle, Waggoner took 80th with a time of 59.88. Sherrer finished 108th in the same race at 1:02.08 and Collier finished 113th at 1:03.03.
Collier also finished 57th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:14.71. Waggoner finished 136th in the 50 freestyle at 26.68, followed by Sherrer in 176th at 27.86.
The Lady Wildcat relay team of Jenkins, Hobbs, Harding and Fragosa took 32nd in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:21.02. The same squad also went on to finish 33rd in the 200 freestyle relay at 2:05.60.
The Wildcats fielded two relay teams in the boys 200 medley relay. The “A” relay team consisted of Holmes, Bailey, Sherrer and Waggoner which finished 22nd at 1:57. The “B” relay team was comprised of Poland, Purdue, Collier and Reed who finished at 2:04.87. During the regionals, “B” teams did not place during the race, but the races were used as experience for the members.
The same teams also competed in the 200 freestyle relay and the Wildcats were again led by the “A” team who finished 22nd at 1:42.90. The “B” team finished at 1:55.60.
Tullahoma will complete its season at the 2017 Tennessee State Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville on Friday and Saturday. Jenkins, Holmes and Clay Bailey have qualified to swim individually. Sherrer and Waggoner will swim again with Holmes and Clay Bailey as part of a boys relay team. Collier will also travel with the team as an available alternate.
