THS swimmers take part in region meet

Eight Tullahoma High School swimmers took part in individual events in the Middle Tennessee High School Region Swimming and Diving Championships in Nashville on Jan. 26.

Dana Bjorn, Turner Boudreaux, Bradley Holmes, Lily Jenkins, Caleb Purdue, Ethan Sherrer, Liam Waggoner and Abigail West all swam in individual events at the regional meet held at the Centennial Sportsplex. Bailey Clark, Topaz Fragoso, Raymond Lin, Caroline McCullough and Zachary Poland additionally took part in the relay events.

Holmes led the THS boys by taking seventh in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.03 seconds, taking 1.88 seconds off his previous personal best in the event. Waggoner also competed in the same event, taking 43rd with a time of 55.65.

Holmes additionally took 10th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.24, again setting a personal best, by taking 4.24 seconds off his previous personal record. Purdue finished 58th overall in the same race with a time of 1:16.22.

Jenkins finished eighth overall in the girls 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:11.15. She additionally placed 14th in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 1:03.64.

In the boys 100 butterfly, Boudreaux took 40th overall in the event with a time of 1:13.42, taking 1.58 seconds off his prior personal best.

West finished 41st in the girls 200 individual medley, clocking in with a time of 2:50.98, taking 1.29 seconds off her previous personal record.

Sherrer finished 49th in the boys 200 freestyle with a time of 2:21.79. Waggoner took 63rd in the freestyle with a time of 25.08 seconds, dropping .16 from his previous personal best.

West also set another personal best in the girls 50 freestyle, finishing 104th overall with a time of 29.37, shaving 1.29 seconds off her previous record. Bjorn also set a personal best in the event, finishing 162nd overall with a time of 30.63, dropping .35 seconds off her personal record.

In the relay events, Holmes, Purdue, Waggoner and Poland teamed to take 26th in the boys 200 medley, finishing with a time of 2:01.60. Sherrer, Boudreaux, Lin and Clark teamed to clock in at 2:11.34 during the same race.

Jenkins, Bjorn, West and Fragoso finished 32nd in the girls 200 medley relay with a time of 2:21.58.

Holmes, Sherrer, Waggoner and Clark finished 21st in the boys 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.45. Purdue, Boudreaux, Lin and Poland also teamed to finish in 1:54.11 during the same race.

In the girls 200 freestyle relay, Jenkins, Bjorn, West and McCullough finished 23rd with a time of 1:58.69.

The Tennessee High School State Swimming and Diving Championships will be held in Knoxville on Friday and Saturday. Holmes and Jenkins have previously qualified to swim in a maximum of two individual events at the state meet.
