To say that I’m addicted to lip balm would be an understatement.

You can bet that I have at least four to five balms on hand, hidden in different parts of the house, around the office and in the car. You never know when you might forget it and that would, of course, be the one time your lips feel like the Sahara Desert. So its’s best to have a few on hand, you know, just to be on the safe side. Luck does favor the prepared.

We tend to forget that our lips are one of most exposed parts of our bodies and one that we almost always overlook until they are cracked and dry and great need of some TLC.

There are tons of balm out there and everyone has their favorite. Whether you’re looking for a good old-fashioned balm or something that pulls double duty as a moisturizer and lip gloss, there’s a balm for you.

While I have my personal favorites, there are some new balms out there worth giving a whirl. Here’s some of the veterans and newbies to enjoy.

C.O. Bigelow

A tried and true veteran that might just be my favorite of all time. This mint-infused lip balm provides a glossy high shine with an awesome cooling sensation. Lips stay moist and protected while peppermint oil gives your breath a long-lasting freshness. It also comes in a variety of shades to give you lips a hint of color. It’s exclusively made in the U.S.A. and can be purchased at our local Bath & Body Works.

Bálsamo labial ChapStick Flava-Craze.

You just can’t beat it. Created in the early 1880s by physician Dr. Charles Browne Fleet, the ChapStick formula has been modified over the years, but still offers a moisturizing formula that can’t be beat. The best, of course, is cherry. But you’re allowed to have you favorite too. You can find ChapStick just about anywhere.

Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm

While tinted balms can be too transparent and lipsticks too drying, this hand little stick of beauty offers the perfect combo for those looking for a balm and some major color. It can be purchased locally at stores such as CVS and Wal-Mart.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy

This is a new one for me. But if you’ve let you lips get to the Sahara Desert stage, then this should get you back to the land of the living. It has a soothing, softening formula with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and peptides that allow for super smoothing. You can find it at While on the expensive side at $26, it provides seriously lip-therapy.

Rosebud Salve

What was probably your grandmother’s go-to for dry lips works just as well today. The balm that comes in a tiny tin packs a big punch with its petrolatum and cotton seed oil. Find it online at
