Before the new critical care unit at Harton Regional Medical Center opens for patient care next month, the hospital will host a public open house and ribbon cutting for the community, staff and physicians.
Anyone interested in touring the new unit on the third floor of the patient tower is welcome to visit the hospital at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Construction on the $4.9 million expansion of the critical care unit (CCU) began in July, with completion expected by the end of the year.
Opening on time and on budget, the new 10,000 square foot CCU triples the size of the former space, expanding the unit from eight to 14 all-private rooms.
Improvements made to patient rooms during the expansion include increased privacy, decreased noise levels and larger, personal bathrooms.
For visitors, an expanded waiting room and a new family consultation room were added.
The unit’s physicians and nurses will also see improvements in the form of a new central nursing station.
The expansion has also placed nursing workstations outside each patient room, furnished all rooms with new equipment, and provided the unit with a new cardiac monitoring system.
Director of marketing Ava Lynch said that patients are expected to move into the new unit on Jan. 8.
Harton Regional Medical Center is a comprehensive health care facility serving Coffee, Bedford, Moore and Franklin counties. It is owned by Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tennessee.

The last major expansion of the hospital was the addition of the four-story patient tower, completed in 2009.
