Mash Bash will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside Northgate Mall, at 1600 N. Jackson St., Tullahoma. The event is sponsored by Harton Regional Medical Center, Southern Community Bank, Northgate Mall and The Tullahoma News.
Blood Assurance serves 46 counties in a five-state region, and is the sole provider of blood and blood components for 70 healthcare facilities, including Harton Regional Medical Center. Over 440 blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply the region served by Blood Assurance with lifesaving blood, according to officials.
The goal for this year’s blood drive is 100 donors. Anyone eligible to volunteer to donate blood is encouraged to participate this year. All donors will receive a T-shirt, food will be available and prizes will be given away from area businesses. All donors can register to win an iPod shuffle.
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids – avoiding caffeine – and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
