Get in the spirit of Christmas with South Jackson Civic Center with a family movie night. Cuddling up on the couch is nice, but it sometimes gets crowded. Head out to South Jackson for a comfy seat of your own, and don’t forget the popcorn.

South Jackson will be showing the Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful life” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a holiday classic the whole family can watch to remember to be thankful for their blessings this holiday season.

This classic film is about an angel who is sent from heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. Bring the family in close and remember the reason for the season while watching this classic together.

Tickets for this event are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Included in ticket price is a drink and a popcorn. Skip the elbowing and blanket sharing on the couch at home this year and settle in with a drink and a popcorn all to yourself at the civic center.

To purchase tickets call 931-455-5321, or visit www.southjackson.org.

Gala

Celebrate the New Year with South Jackson Civic Center at its annual fundraising Gala at Arnold Lakeside Club Jan. 19, 2019.

Themed “A Night in New Orleans,” the event will celebrate 40 years of performing arts held at the center and sweep guests away into the night with music, food and drinks.

“From the moment you arrive you will be swept into the humid jazzy streets of the Big Easy,” said South Jackson Civic Center office coordinator Rini Tyler. “From the delicious food to the beautiful art and festive atmosphere, to the enticing spirits, we have made our very own Tennessee Mardi Gras!”

While there have been many themes throughout the years, Mardi Gras has seemed to be a big hit in years past.

“This suggestion came from South Jackson’s performing arts division,” said Tyler about the theme. “We have done one in the past of this theme and it was a wonderful success. We hope to recapture that atmosphere.”

This event serves as one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the nonprofit center that provides performing arts to the community.

“The funds raised from this event will help South Jackson continue to works towards our mission to foster, promote and engage in cultural, educational, historical and civic activities,” said Tyler. “We work to preserve and restore the South Jackson Street Public School Building for use by the community as a civic and performing arts center.”

The night will feature live entertainment, themed food and spirits. The South Jackson Street Big Band and several other local artists will be performing throughout the evening. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar cocktail hour. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Seating for this event is limited. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 9. The cost is $60 per person, for $500 for a 10-seat table.

The gala will be held at Arnold Lakeside Club, 4175 Westover Road in Tullahoma. To purchase tickets call 931-455-5321, or go to www.southjackson.org.
