Good Samaritan of Tullahoma received two full pallets of food from the local Publix Super Market Wednesday, Nov. 13. The Good Samaritan of Tullahoma will be better able to help residents in need thanks to a substantial donation of food from the local Publix store.

The local grocery store delivered two full pallets of food items, including tuna, peanut butter, green beans and more, to the nonprofit agency as part of a continuing partnership between the two.

According to Good Samaritan’s Cindy Kinney, the food item donation came to her organization as part of the Food for Sharing campaign put on by Publix stores around the country.

According to the corporate website, the Food for Sharing campaign allows Publix customers to help provide food pantries with supplies through voluntary donations at the register.

Customers can choose from three different donation amounts for food “bundles” that translate to certain food items being marked for donation.

According to Publix, “we arrange for multiple food banks, pantries and nonprofit organizations to receive the food to distribute to people in need.”

“We also work with these nonprofit partners to eliminate waste in the donation process,” Publix says.

Tullahoma Publix Store Manager Tim Hastings said the two pallets were compiled through donations made for the Thanksgiving Food for Sharing campaign and included items such as macaroni and cheese, instant potatoes, rice, peanut butter and jelly and more.

And the food doesn’t stop at Good Samaritan, according to Kinney. Not only does the food help the Good Samaritan food program, she also works with other organizations in the community such as Tullahoma Day Care, Come to the Table, Shepherd’s House and Coffee County Senior Citizens Inc.

“All the food we receive from Publix stays in the community,” Kinney said.

There is another Food for Sharing campaign happening now, according to the corporate website. The Holiday 2019 food bundles can be purchased until Sunday, Nov. 17, at $5.07, $11.96 or $13.58.
