With only a week and a half left to go, The Tullahoma News’ Karing for Kids campaign is still soliciting donations from generous givers in the area.

Donations passed the halfway mark last week, with the current total sitting at just over $12,000.

As of Friday morning, Nov. 23, Karing for Kids has $12,180 in its bank – only about 61-percent of its $20,000 goal  - to send local children in need shopping for winter clothing early next month.

According to program coordinator Debbie Wimsatt, the campaign has now reached crunch time, and anyone looking to help Tullahoma children keep warm this winter are encouraged to give a little more if they possibly can.

With the monies raised, 200 children selected from each of the city’s four elementary schools will visit participating stores – including JCPenney, Burkes Outlet, Peebles and Walmart – to find deals on warm winter coats and shoes. 

If the campaign reaches its $20,000 goal, each child will have $100 to spend and a volunteer to assist them in finding the best deals.

After shopping, both children and volunteers will enjoy a free pizza party at Northgate Mall thanks to donations from Coco-Cola, Domino’s and Papa John’s Pizza.

 

How to donate

Karing for Kids is a nonprofit organization. Donations are being accepted in any amount and are tax deductible. Receipts are available upon request.

Donations can be dropped off in person at The News office, 505 Lakeway Place, or mailed to Karing for Kids, P.O. Box 400, Tullahoma, TN 37388.

Donors’ names will appear in forthcoming issues of The Sunday News. Donations may be made anonymously by request.
