Jennifer Matlock

Jennifer Matlock officially began her job as the human resources specialist for Tullahoma City Schools on Tuesday, May 29.

In a restructuring effort in the main office, Tullahoma City Schools has brought on a human resources specialist to assist with personnel and insurance matters for the district.

Jennifer Matlock has officially begun her duties as HR Specialist for TCS, according to school officials.

Matlock said she was excited to get to work with those at the main office.

“I’m super excited and ready to get in here and get started and enjoy working with the ladies and learning new things,” she said on Tuesday.

According to Director of Schools John Carver, the need for an HR Specialist comes from more movement at the administration office.

“Dr. [Greg] Carter next year is going to be transitioning to the classroom,” Carver said.

Carter handled a large portion of human resources, including personnel files, according to Carver, so the need to bring in someone skilled in human resources areas like personnel and insurance was imminent.

Matlock certainly fits the bill, Carver said.

“Jennifer has got almost 20 years of HR experience,” he said. “As we started to move the pieces around…she was the one the consensus agreed to bring on board.”

There will be other moves in the main office, Carver said.

Mike Roggli, the district’s longtime business director, will be retiring at the end of June, so Carver will also be in the hunt for a new chief operations officer. There will also be a need for a new receptionist to assist in HR matters, he added.

Both the new positions will work with Matlock in order to ensure all the personnel and insurance figures line up, Carver said.

“It’s real important that the HR and the payroll are in sync with each other,” he said. “Being a public school, there’s another layer of accountability.”

Carver said while the receptionist would assist Matlock with HR components, the chief operations officer would oversee more of the business side of school operations. Some of those items include the budget, accounts payable and transportation, as well as some HR functions.
