Duck River cleanup

Duck River Agency Director of Finance and Administration Linda Periut-Johnson poses in the agency’s Shelbyville office with samples of the hats and T-shirts given to volunteers during the 2018 cleanup.

With the official arrival of summer, area waterways will be popular destinations for boaters and families. This weekend the community is invited to volunteer a few hours to ensure one of the area’s most popular outdoor destinations looks its best this season.

The Duck River Cleanup is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 22. Volunteers will meet below Normandy Dam.

TVA and the Duck River Agency will be providing all cleanup supplies, according to Linda Periut-Johnson, director of finance and administration for Tennessee Duck River Development Agency.

This is the 22nd annual cleanup event.

T-shirts, gloves, grabbers and garbage bags will be provided by the organizers.

“I’m looking forward to another successful event and want to thank the volunteers for all they do to clean up the areas surrounding our water supply,” Periut-Johnson said.

TVA, Tennessee Duck River Development Agency and Keep Coffee County Beautiful are sponsoring the event.
