Splash Island opens for its fifth season Friday. For the upcoming season, Tullahoma Parks and Recreation hired roughly 150 employees to help with the crowds, which average 400 swimmers per session. The swim season runs through Sept. 3.

Splash Island opens for its fifth season Friday, and Tullahoma Parks and Recreation Department officials have readied a crew of about 150 to man the water recreation area for the next few months.

More than 85 lifeguards will be available for shifts throughout the summer months, joined by another 25 on staff in the concession stand and a few dozen more who will staff the front desk.

Aquatics and Center Coordinator Sheila Rico said the 2019 schedule will kick off with a “School’s Out Party” from 1 - 9 p.m. on Friday and end with a “Labor Day Bash” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 2.

In the months between, the pool will be open Monday through Saturday in two sessions per day: a morning session from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and an afternoon session from 4 to 9 p.m. The pool closes each day between sessions for maintenance.

On Sundays the pool will be open in the afternoon only, from 1-6 p.m. After regular hours this Sunday, May 26, the pool will host DJ on the Deck for ages 10-14 from 6-9 p.m.

The admission fee per session is $5. Children age 2 and under enter for free.

Since its 2015 opening, attendance has averaged more than 400 visitors per session, and Rico said, “We have an increase in attendance every year.”

Events during the season will include DJ on the Deck, Key Log rolling, Shark Week, Christmas in July, Rubber Duckie Day and Beach Ball Blast.
