CLARK, Robert “Bobby” James, 73, of Decherd, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 18, at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
EMBRY, Kathryn Lucille Purkhiser, 105, of Tullahoma, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma. Kathryn was a member of the church of Christ at Cedar Lane. She was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana, to the late Harry Robert Purkhiser Sr. and Hester Belle Kelso. Her family lived in Seymour for several years, then moved to North Vernon, Indiana. Her father worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and the company moved them around, allowing them to live several places. Kathryn married Earl Guthrie Embry on Feb. 27, 1932. They were married 36 years before his death on July 4, 1968. Following his death, Kathryn went to work for the Jennings County Board of Education. She worked at Butlerville Elementary for one year before transferring to Scipio Elementary where she served as the school secretary for 12 years. At the same time, Mrs. Embry worked for the North Vernon Hospital (now the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital) as a Guild Lady. She continued to volunteer at the hospital for 35 years. In addition to her husband and parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by one sister, Harriet Belle Sherbundy; one brother, Harry Robert Purkhiser Jr.; and one great-grandson, Gregory Andrew Embry. She is survived by her son, Donald Earl Embry Sr., and his wife, Shirley Mae Critchlow Embry, of Tullahoma; three grandchildren: Donald Earl Embry Jr. and his wife Colleen McGee Embry of Shelbyville, Susan Leslie Ingels and her husband Brian of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Dave Robert Embry and his wife Tracey Sevener Embry of Midlothian, Virginia. Five great-grandchildren: Christopher Matthew Ingels of Edinburgh, Indiana, Donald Kirk Embry and his wife Kayla Shade Embry of Murfeesboro, Kelly Caye Ingels of Edinburgh, William Robert Embry of Midlothian, Virginia, and John Bruce Embry of Midlothian; and four great-great-grandchildren, Emma Claire Embry of Smyrna, Scarlett Emerson Embry of Murfreesboro, Emery Caye Kemp of Edinburgh, and Donald Luke Embry of Murfreesboro. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 18, at Kilgore Funeral Home. Another visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at Sawyer and Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana, with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana. ERNST, Larry, 79, received his final duty posting March 14, 2019, and has joined his beloved Kathleen Rose in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. The Sergeant Major served his country for 30 years, including tours in Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and the Marshall Islands as well as several postings in the U.S. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. GARRETT, Robert “Tim” Sr., 65, of Wartrace, passed this life on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at his residence. Memorial services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. A native of Winchester, he was the son of the late Bobby Garrett and Wanda Jean Walker Garrett, who survives. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. Mr. Garrett was a member of Maxwell Baptist Church of Belvidere and was a Mason. He enjoyed training horses, horseback riding, trail riding and camping with his horses. He was known as a “Horse Whisperer.” He enjoyed hunting bargains and making deals. He also enjoyed planting a garden. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by son, Robert T. Garrett Jr. He is survived by his wife Shelley Robinette Garrett of Wartrace; mother Wanda Jean Walker Garrett of Belvidere; son Glen Garrett and his wife Kathy, of Decherd; daughter Teresa Fortner and her husband, Steven, of Drummonds; brother Terry Garrett of Taft; sisters Donna Weaver North of Shelbyville, Bobbie Jean Garrett Riel and her husband, Richard, of Winchester and Karen Gardner of Coldwater; grandchildren Paige Michelle Garrett Henshaw, Rebecca Hope Garrett, Alexis Jade Garrett, Mitchell Blake Garrett, Tyler Frizzell, Noah Brown and Ethan Fortner and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. WOODARD, Anita Ray, 59, of Tullahoma, passed from this life at her residence on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at Tullahoma Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bynum officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at the funeral home. Anita was born in Tullahoma, to the late Alton and Elwanda Partin. She was a registered nurse for 38 years. Anita loved University of Tennessee football, gardening and her grandbabies. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. In addition to her parents, Anita is also preceded in death by one brother, Royce Partin. She is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, Chris Woodard; one daughter, Jayme Martin (Dustin); one son, Jeremy Martin (Alicia); two grandsons, Konnor Martin and Bahley Minor; one sister, Glenda Fuller (Tony); one niece, Deanna Cossey (Tony); one nephew, Layth Fuller; and one great-niece, Amayla Cossey. WRIGHT, Roy Vaughn, 82, of Tullahoma, passed away March 14 at Manchester Health Care Center. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, in the chapel at Kilgore Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Roy was born May 21, 1936. He attended the Church of Christ in Dalton, Georgia, and served as a deacon for the Central Church of Christ in Dalton. It was there he decided to enter the ministry. He graduated from the Memphis School of Preaching in 1969. He also holds a BA in Biblical Studies and a master’s degree in Doctrine of Christian Apologetics. He had preached the Gospel for 50 years. Since 1986, he taught classes in Trinidad, preaching and teaching in San Fernando, Trinidad. He spent a year in Trinidad working at Trinidad School of Preaching and Teaching. He did local work in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and numerous other locations. He loved writing religious articles for newspapers. His favorite work was preaching on the radio. His latest work was with the Southern Middle TN School of Biblical Studies conducted in various congregations throughout the brotherhood. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Grover and Julia Wright, and brother, Grover Wright, Jr. He is survived by a sister, Carolyn Trueblood, of Benton. He is survived by his wife, Shelby, and three children: son Victor and Angelia Wright of Tullahoma, son Russell and Bonnie Wright of Murfreesboro, and daughter Kristal and Greg Weddington of Decherd; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
