CATES, Donnie Warren, 77, of Wartrace, born Dec. 25, 1941, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019. He loved his family dearly and took pride in raising his cattle. Donnie was married to the love of his life for 56 years. He was preceded in death by: parents, Jewell Hyche Cates & B.R. Cates; and brothers, Benjamin “Ben” and Benny Cates. Survivors include: his loving wife, Mary Jean Cates; sons, Donnie Warren Cates Jr. and Shannon Earnest Cates; daughter, Angela Emma (Ollie) Vincent, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Cindy) Cates; and sisters, Elaine (Jesse) Reed, Gale (Ronny) Hasty, Airi (Charlie) Creson, and Becky Reed. He will be missed greatly. Per his request, there will be no public services held. CUNNINGHAM, Emily Messick, of Tullahoma, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 23, 2019.  She was preceded in death by parents Clarence Wesley Messick and Beulah Elizabeth Pearson Messick, and son, David William Cunningham. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. James William Cunningham; her daughters Beth Sell (Charles) of Nashville, and Kay O’Connell (Matt) of Franklin; her siblings Billy Messick (Sherry), Jimmy Messick, Eddy Messick (Kathleen), and Debby Matthews (Jim); her sister-in-law, Ann Cunningham; her grandchildren Ryan Cunningham (Katie), Allison Cunningham, Charles Sell, William Sell, Benjamin O’Connell, and Emily O’Connell; daughter-in-law Janet Cunningham; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Born in Bell Buckle, Emily graduated from Bell Buckle High School, where she was an active participant and leader of the Beta Club and the Bedford County 4-H Club. She won multiple championships with her Jersey cows and was chosen to represent her county at many state and national meetings. Emily attended Middle Tennessee State University and later worked for The Webb School and Arnold Engineering Development Center. After staying home many years to raise her three children, she began a 27-year career in sales at Arnold’s Furniture of Tullahoma. Emily loved Tullahoma and was very involved in the community. She held many leadership positions in The AEDC Women’s Club, was a Girl Scout leader, and worked the polls at every election. She volunteered regularly at her children’s schools, the local Guidance Counsel, the Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program, and her church. At Arnold’s Furniture, Emily was able to combine her knowledge of furniture and her love of design with her desire to help others. She loved getting to know her customers and using her expertise to help them create beautiful homes that functioned well for their families. She was known for tending to every last detail and took pride in a job well done and a satisfied customer. Emily was an accomplished bridge player and played with many clubs throughout her years in Tullahoma.  She was still playing at least three times a week, enjoying the camaraderie of friends as well as a little competition. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at First Christian Church in Tullahoma, with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall. Memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The American Heart Association, or First Christian Church of Tullahoma. Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Garth

GARTH, Ellen Goley, 85, of Winchester, departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at the Willows at Winchester. Mrs. Garth was born in Herbertstown, Ireland, on May 29, 1933, to the late Martin and Ellen Keane Goley. She was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Garth emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1950 to live with her aunt in New York. Her last place of employment was with the former Adco Company in Derry, New Hampshire, where she was in quality control. Her hobbies were knitting and watching TV. She especially loved to watch dramas. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert A. Garth of Winchester; son, Robert (Renee) Garth of Franklin; three grandchildren, Arness Holsey, Robbie Garth and Lucy Garth; one sister, Kathleen Hickey of England; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Garth will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Father Anthony Mutuku. Visitation with the family will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services, 103 Peters Road, Estill Springs. Interment will follow in the Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd. Grant Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

JACKSON, Billy “Bill” W., 80 of Belvidere, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Skilled Care. Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel.  Interment followed at Lexie Crossroads Cemetery. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
