Three Tullahoma High School athletes recently received all-state honors. Julia Duncan, Quintin Howard and Ian Poe were recognized for their efforts on the field.
On Wednesday, Duncan was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Class AA Soccer Team after a historic season on the soccer field. During her final season, Duncan set two new school records for Tullahoma.
The senior forward first set a new career mark for most career goals, and then finished with the most goals in a season. Both of those previous records were set by Jessica Kyle during the 2002 season.
Duncan ends her career with 92 goals, smashing a mark that previously set at 76. Duncan also put up 37 goals on the year, breaking Kyle’s mark, which was set at 36.
That stellar season earned Duncan some state-wide recognition back in November as well, as she was selected to be a member of the Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Team. In December, Duncan was named The Tullahoma News' Female Athlete of the Year.
On the football field, Howard and Poe were recognized as members of the Class 4A Tennessee High School Football Coaches Association All-State Team last week. Both players were previously named to the Region 4-4A All-Region First Team.
On the offensive line, Poe helped anchor a Tullahoma offense that generated 341 yards per contest. As a team, the Wildcats threw for 1,999 yards while adding 1,754 yards on the ground.
On the defensive end, Howard played solidly at the cornerback position for the Wildcats. He finished second on the team in tackles, wrapping up 49 this season. Howard also intercepted three passes, while causing and recovering two fumbles.
