Tullahoma opened its series against North by hammering out a 10-0 win in Winchester on Tuesday, but couldn’t quite earn the sweep, losing 3-2 at home on Wednesday night, splitting the series with the Gators.
On Tuesday, Tullahoma plated a run in the first, second and third innings. The Wildcats then broke through for four runs in the fourth inning, before tacking on three more scores in the fifth.
Ashton Dodd got the start for Tullahoma on Tuesday. In three innings, Dodd allowed just two hits and a pair of walks, while striking out six batters.
Andrew Dawson took over in the fourth inning for the Wildcats, giving up just a hit in his outing. Mason Myers tossed the final inning for TMS only surrendering a walk.
Jaxon Sheffield scored the game’s opening run, after reaching on an error in the top of the first inning, and later stealing second base. Parker Moore added a one-out double that plated Sheffield, giving Tullahoma a 1-0 lead.
Wade Collins plated the second run of the game in the top of the second inning for Tullahoma, reaching on a one-out single. Sheffield again reached on an error, but it allowed Collins to cross home, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.
Moore led off the third inning by getting hit by the pitch and stealing second base shortly thereafter. Jake Martin added a one-out triple that plated Moore and extended the Wildcats’ lead to 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Collins reached on an error to start the inning, before Zane Hopf reached on a base hit. However, Hopf was out at second base, after Sheffield reached after grounding into fielder’s choice, putting runners at the corners.
Dodd followed with a double that plated Collins and Sheffield, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 advantage. Jackson King came in as the courtesy runner for the pitcher, before Moore and Danny Martinez drew back-to-back walks, loading the bases.
King and Moore scored in their next at-bats, and Martin singled, giving Tullahoma a 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats’ final three runs came in the fifth inning, after Dodd reached base on a two-out single. Moore was hit by the pitch in his at-bat, before Martinez drove in Dodd with an RBI single, making the score 8-0.
Moore later scored in the inning on a pair of wild pitches, while Martinez was able to advance to third base. Clayton Litchford reached base on an error, plating Martinez, giving the Wildcats a 10-0 lead.
A day later in Tullahoma, North grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before the Wildcats evened the contest later in the ballgame. However, the Gators plated a run in the sixth inning, and Tullahoma couldn’t answer back, dropping the 3-2 decision.
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, Tullahoma cut into its deficit with a run in the bottom of the frame. Dodd reached on a one-out triple and soon scored on a passed ball, cutting the score to 2-1.
The Wildcats got back into the scoring column in the bottom of the fourth inning, evening the contest at 2. Litchford reached base on a single to start the inning, before King took over as the courtesy runner. King stole second base and moved to third on a passed ball, before scoring on a two-out RBI single by Dawson.
Martinez got the start for the Wildcats on Wednesday, tossing an inning, allowing two runs on a hit and a pair of walks, while striking out two batters.
Collins came in and threw 3.2 innings for Tullahoma. Collins allowed three walks on a hit, while striking out four batters.
Martin followed by throwing 1.2 innings for the Wildcats, surrendering an unearned run off of a walk and striking out a batter. Sheffield pitched the final 1.1 innings for Tullahoma, giving up a walk and striking out five batters.
Tullahoma (5-3, 3-1) was scheduled to take on Oakland on Saturday. However, as of press time, the result of that contest was unavailable.
The Wildcats were then slated to open a series against White County on Monday. Tullahoma is scheduled to travel to Sparta on Monday, before hosting the Warriors on Tuesday. First pitch on both days is scheduled for 5 p.m.
