Evan Tomlin was dominant early for the West Middle School boys team, as he and the Bobcats prevailed in a 49-32 victory over East at Tullahoma High School on Monday.
In the first quarter, West fed the ball to Tomlin, as the forward netted eight points in the quarter, helping give his team a 15-5 lead at the end of the first period. DeAndre Jenkins added four points, while Xavier Farrell scored two points and Grant Chadwick added a free throw.
Jalen Hill and Jerell Sheffield each hit a basket for East in the opening quarter. Malik Grizzard added a free throw.
The offensive woes continued in the second quarter for the Panthers. East again scored five points in the period, trailing 24-10 at halftime. Grizzard had three of those second-quarter points for the Panthers, while Sheffield added a basket of his own.
West netted nine points in the second period, led by Tomlin who scored six points. Jenkins added three points in the quarter.
Out of the break, Tomlin netted six points in the third quarter for West. LaShawn Kimmons added four points, as the Bobcats took a 34-21 lead into the final period of play.
Grizzard and Hill each scored four points in the third quarter for East. Khani Johnson added two points, while Jaiden Sanchez hit a free throw.
The Panthers scored 11 more points in the fourth quarter, led by Sanchez and Sheffield, as each player scored three points. Hill and TreVaughn Palmer each scored two points, while Alex Bobo knocked down a free throw.
Tomlin added six more points for West in the final quarter. Kimmons added four points, while Jenkins scored three points and Chadwick netted two points.
Tomlin led both teams in scoring, putting up 26 points in the victory. Jenkins also finished with double figures with 10 points.
Kimmons totaled eight points. Chadwick scored three points, while Farrell put up two points.
Hill and Grizzard each scored eight points for East. Sheffield added seven points, while Sanchez scored four points. Johnson and Palmer each put up two points, while Bobo hit a free throw.
Both East and West were coming off a wins on Nov. 21. The Panthers defeated Harris at home 64-35, while West notched a home win over White County. As of press time, the full books for that game against White County wasn’t available.
Grizzard led East in the victory with 13 points. Sheffield and Keegan Taylor also finished with double figures, as Sheffield put up 11 points, while Taylor added 10 points.
Sanchez and Hill each scored nine pints. Liam Grider added four points, while Bobo and Palmer each scored three points and T.J. Green scored two points.
West will next travel to Harris on Monday, before hosting South on Thursday. East will host Coffee County on Thursday. Tipoff for all three games is scheduled to take place at 7:15 p.m.
