Football fans will get an early peek at this year’s Wildcats team when Tullahoma hosts its annual Red vs. White Game on Thursday at Wilkins Stadium.
“It’s been an interesting spring,” said THS Head Coach John Olive. “Normally, we are missing skill players by the bucketful. We still are missing a few, but this year, it’s the linemen that we are missing. So, it’s been a good experience though. It’s given us an opportunity to look at other linemen and I think we found three or four who can actually help us.”
Some of those names linemen who could help the Wildcats include Trent Espy, Jaylin Newson and Jayden Taylor. Olive also noted that there were a couple of more players who could help his team in the upcoming season.
“All of those guys have the chance to really help us on the defensive and offensive lines. Nick White is also back at defensive end, which will really help us as well. So, this spring has allowed those guys to really have a chance.”
At the skill positions, the Wildcats return several key players. Ben Fulton is expected to once again be quarterback, while Hunter Palmer and Jakobe Thomas will play key roles at wide receiver. Quintin Howard and Hunter Jewell will also play vital roles for Tullahoma this season.
According to Olive, practices this spring have averaged around 30 players, with several players still missing due to spring sports. By the start of the season, the THS coach said he expects his roster to number nearly 60 players.
Kickoff for Thursday’s Red vs. White Football Game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and, according to Olive, he just wants to see one thing from his team.
“Just get after each other,” Olive said. “In that spring game, just have fun and get after each other. We hope that we will get it in without any weather issues and without any injuries. Once you get to this point in spring ball, you just want to get out of spring ball.”
