Limiting Lexington to just two hits in its own home ballpark on Tuesday night, the Tullahoma 10U Little League All-Stars secured a 6-1 victory, locking a spot into Friday night’s state title matchup.
Tullahoma will play in the state title contest at 7 p.m. Friday in Lexington. The local all-stars will face the winner of Thursday night’s Goodlettsville and Lexington matchup. As of press time, the result of that contest was unavailable.
In order to get to the state title contest, Tullahoma opened its state tournament run with three-straight wins. Tullahoma opened the state tournament by tossing a no-hitter, hammering Smith County 18-0 in four innings. Grayson Waller, Hunter Hogan, Joshua Rabassa and Trevor Cole combined to complete the no-hitter.
On Sunday, Tullahoma once again shut out its opponent, defeating Morristown 8-0. Xavier Farrell hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to help his team in the victory.
Hogan got the start on the mound and picked up the win for Tullahoma on Tuesday night. In 3.2 innings pitched, he allowed just a pair of first-inning hits and an earned run while striking out six batters
Rabassa closed out the contest on the hill, tossing the final 2.1 innings for Tullahoma. Rabassa did not give up a hit, but did surrender a walk while striking out six of the eight batters he faced.
After Lexington couldn’t capitalize on a pair of hits in the top of the first inning, Tullahoma plated the first run of the contest in the bottom half of the frame. Alex Bobo and Trevor Cole reached base on back-to-back one-out singles. Rabassa followed with a line drive single to center field that scored Alex Bobo, putting Tullahoma up 1-0.
Lexington evened the score, scoring on an error in the top of the second inning, but Tullahoma answered with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Alex Bobo and Cole opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Rabassa drew a walk to load the bases.
Alex Bobo scored on a passed ball, while Cole and Rabassa were both able to advance a base. Sam Bobo grounded out in the next at-bat, but Cole was able to score. Waller followed with a single to center field that plated Rabassa, putting Tullahoma in front 4-1.
Tullahoma added its final pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kirk Tipps led off the inning with a single before Rabassa was intentionally walked. With two outs, Waller singled in order to load the bases. Farrell followed with a two-RBI single to right field that scored Tipps and Rabassa to give Tullahoma a 6-1 lead.
