The Tullahoma girls’ basketball team took care of business in their home gym on Saturday, Jan. 10, with a win against Cannon County High School. They won this matchup, 55-36, giving them their tenth win of the season.

One of the Lady Wildcats’ main strengths this season, defense, was present as could be in this contest. Tullahoma in the first half only allowed the opposing Lady Lions to score 16 points—10 in the first quarter and six in the second. This intense defense was flanked by some great offense from the ‘Cats, with senior McLayne Bobo having a big part in it.

Compared to the Lady Lions’ 16 points in the opening two quarters, Tullahoma had 32. Out of this, Bobo had 11 points. As she has been all year, she was persistent in her aggression in getting to the basket, drawing fouls constantly in building Tullahoma’s double-digit advantage. She had a total of 14 free throw attempts in the entirety of the contest, eight of which came in the first half. Bobo, like she has many times this season, finished as the team’s leading scorer with 17 points.

Second-year player for THS, Kenzie Farrell, was also good offensively for Tullahoma against Cannon County. She was tied as the second leading scorer along with fellow 2028 graduate Lizzy Sharpton with nine points. Following a freshman campaign where Farrell saw the court rarely through 31 games, Farrell, as of late, in her sophomore year has made it impossible to keep her off of it.

“Consistency, she has really played with a lot of consistency the last few weeks on offense and defense. Kenzie has done a great job bringing energy as well to our team and on-court play. She is active on defense and helps us set our defensive tone for the game. On offense, she is making plays at all three levels, and that helps us balance out our offense,” said head coach of the Lady Wildcats Chad Hibdon regarding what has made Farrell a staple in Tullahoma’s rotation.

The Lady Wildcats’ great overall team play as a whole in the second half helped maintain their 32-16 advantage, eventually resulting in a win, and improving their overall record to 10-7. Tullahoma will look to continue to add to its good performance in its next matchup on Jan. 13 against Marshall County High School. The opposing Lady Tigers this season have a record of 6-8 and have lost their last two games. This game between Marshall and Tullahoma will mark each team’s first district game of the season. Last season in the two-game series between Marshall and Tullahoma, the ‘Cats won both games: 40-33 and 33-22.
