Kimberly Martin Paschall, Mrs. Tennessee American, is preparing to represent the Volunteer State on the national stage at Mrs. AMERICAN in Las Vegas, and she is inviting local businesses, organizations, and community members to partner with her as sponsors.

A ugust 9 is Book Lovers Day, a reminder of the places books can take us and the ways they can improve our lives. Books give us so much, not only while we’re reading but long after we’ve turned the final page. Books show us what our lives could have been were we born in a different place and at a different time. One day, we’re in the marshes of North Carolina in the 1950s, and the next we’re headed to ancient Rome as the city burns or to Alaska, where the snow crunches under our boots and we’re alone in the freezing vastness. We could even live a thousand possible lives within a single book, imagining what our own might have been had we made different choices. Books allow us to experience life through people we may never meet and places we could never imagine visiting. Books show us we’re not alone.

The Hands-On Science Center held its fourth annual “Are you Smarter Than a Science Camper?” trivia competition on Saturday, July 18, in which the science campers triumphed over several teams.
