How to submit a Letter to the Editor
The Tullahoma News encourages its readers to express their views by submitting letters to the editor. Letters that are published will appear on the opinion page of the Wednesday edition.
To submit a letter for consideration, please either email it to dsherrill@tullahomanews.com or fill out the form down below. While mailed copies are accepted, emailed submissions are strongly encouraged. Deadline for consideration for publication in the following edition is Friday at noon. Letters will run on a first-come basis, and inclusion in a particular edition cannot be guaranteed due to space limitations.
All submissions must have the writer’s name and city of residence. Letters that are not accompanied by the writer’s name and city of residence will not be considered. We also request you provide a phone number should there be questions regarding your letter. Your phone number will not be published.
All letters become property of The Tullahoma News upon receipt and are subject to editing for space and content. Publication of a letter to the editor is at the sole discretion of the editor.
Letters written by former employees about their employers will not be published, nor will letters from disgruntled customers about a private business.
Once a person has announced his candidacy for local office, letters from that person will not be published in the “To the Editor” column. Letters from others specifically supporting or attacking a candidate will also not be published during the campaign season, as those are considered paid advertisements.
The editor may choose not to run a letter if it is deemed mean-spirited, racist, libelous, patently offensive, vulgar, or from a third party or deemed to be plagiarized.
Those writing letters must keep submissions fewer than 400 words.
The Tullahoma News also offers its readers a space in the “Writer’s Corner,” where aspiring writers can publish their stories, poems and writings in the newspaper. The “Writer’s Corner” rules are the same as the rules for publishing a letter to the editor, with the exception that “Writer’s Corner” submissions can be up to 500 words. “Writer’s Corner” submissions can be fiction or nonfiction, prose, lyrics, poems, or informational. “Writer’s Corner” submissions should also be sent to dsherrill@tullahomanews.com.
