Science Center announces Preschool Days program

The Hands-On Science Center is starting the new year off with its new Preschool Days program.

The program was announced towards the end of 2025 on the science center’s social media pages. The program is designed for children ages 3-5, and is open to any child who wants to participate. The program will introduce early science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on, sensory rich activities and lessons.

According to Executive Director Austin Sisco, the Preschool Program was developed in response to a growing need we are seeing for early exposure to foundational STEM concepts.

“By introducing these ideas at a young age, we are not only supporting children today, but also helping shape the innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow,” Sisco said. “It is never too early to begin building curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking skills.”

Sisco added that while the term “STEM” is often overused and misunderstood, at its core it represents a collection of essential ways of thinking and learning.

“Science is the how, Math is the language, Engineering is the design, and Technology is the use,” he said. “Our program is built around helping young learners explore each of these elements in engaging, hands-on ways that make learning both meaningful and fun.”

The first day of the program was Tuesday, Jan. 13, where the students got to learn about the different states of matter of freezing and melting.

Preschool Days are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Families are welcome to arrive at any time during the event window, allowing flexibility for busy schedules.

While the space remains open for exploration throughout the morning, most guided instruction and structured activities take place between 10:15 a.m. and 12 p.m. This ensures children can participate in interactive learning while still having time for free exploration and discovery.

The cost for admission is $7 for nonmembers and $2 for members. Those interested can sign up at the website https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/preschool-days.

Also on the schedule for the science center is its Science of Wine, Brew & Spirits event set for Saturday, Jan. 24. The science center and Ole Shed Brewing Company will host the event at Ole Shed Brewing Company’s location at 107 Montclair St. in Tullahoma. The event will be from 6-9 p.m. and admission is $50 for single and $90 for couples. The event is for ages 21-plus, and childcare will be offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Hands-On Science Center. Tickets can be purchased by visiting https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/science-of-wine-brew-and-spirits.

The Hands-On Science Center is located at 101 Mitchell Blvd., and its business hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
