Local author publishes new book ‘Christmas Rose’

Rick Vella, a multi-talented local author, has recently published his third children’s book, “Christmas Rose”.

According to Vella, “Although not their exact story, a family we attend church with inspired the idea with the adoption story of their wonderful daughter who they added to their family at Christmas time.”

“I wanted to share a heart-warming story that would remind people the best things in life are not things. It’s a story of love, family, charity and the magic of Christmas that will warm your heart and remind you of the joy of belonging.”

The 31-page “Christmas Rose” book is a rhyming tale set in the 1800’s brought to life with beautiful watercolor illustrations. The book tells the story of Rose, a sweet little girl who has spent many Christmases in an orphanage, longing for a family of her own.

Although perfect for all ages, Vella said readers 5 to 9 years would especially enjoy the book.

Writing became Vella’s passion at an early age. He chose to write for children rather than adults.

“Children are the perfect audience for creative stories, as their imaginations are boundless. It’s exciting to be able to see things from their perspective. Writing for children also gives me the chance to make them laugh or provide something they can relate to and that brings such joy to my heart.”

Vella relates a funny story that when in grade school his teacher said Vella was the most creative but the worst at spelling. Over the years Vella has used his gift of creativity in different ways. He travelled for 12 years in a bluegrass band playing several instruments. He has written and recorded several songs and recently branched out into stand-up comedy. Vella has also published two other children’s books.

“Christmas Rose” costs $10 and is available on Amazon.
