The Word Became Flesh

R

From the Gospel of John:  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.”  (John 1:1-2).  The preincarnate Son of God (the Christ) has always been.  That’s why John says what he does in the opening verses of his Gospel.

The Bible teaches, (Colossians 1):  “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.  He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.”

The Bible teaches, (Hebrews 1):  “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed heir of all things, and through Whom He made the universe.”

The Son of God has always been.  “He was with God in the beginning.” (John 1:2).  Then, John says:  “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”  (John 1:14).

There was an “X-point in history”, (some 2025 years ago), when the Son of God (the Christ) “took on flesh and was born in Bethlehem” (“the incarnation”).  “The angel Gabriel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.  You will be with child and give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus.”  “How will this be,” Mary asked, “since I am a virgin?”  “The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.  So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”  (Luke 1:30-35).  [“The angel said to Joseph, “Mary will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”]   (Matthew 1:20-21

“It was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.  He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”  (1 Peter 1:18-20).  God knew before creation that it would be necessary for Jesus Christ to redeem man.

Someone once said:  “When you communicate your love to someone, you use words.  When God communicates His love towards us, He writes His Word in Blood – the Blood of His own Son!”

And from the Cross and from the Open Tomb, God is saying:  “I Love You!”

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”  (John 3:16

“The angel said to them, “Fear not:  for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior.  He is Christ the Lord.”

(Luke 2:10-11)
