All rise – two attorneys join local law firm

Two attorneys, Derek A. Jordan and Matthew Z. Huffer, have joined the Hull, Ray, Rieder, Lane, Jordan and Huffer Law Firm. Both attorneys are from Tullahoma.

Jordan, a 1997 Tullahoma High School graduate, earned a full scholarship to the University of Tennessee Knoxville through the United States Army’s ROTC program. After graduation, Jordan returned to Tullahoma and worked with Richard Raper as a land surveyor. Jordan earned his land surveyor license in 2006 and opened his land surveyor firm, Jordan Geomatics, PLLC.

In 2015, Jordan earned his law license from Nashville School of Law. For almost ten years, Jordan worked remotely for a Los Angeles civil rights, federal criminal defense and IRS defense law firm.

He also served ten years, four full time, as a firefighter and engineer with the Tullahoma Fire Department. He credits three teachers for mentoring him and shaping his world view: English and Latin teacher Fred Wilson, Physics teacher Harold Liner and THS Football Coach, and now Tullahoma City Schools Athletic Director, John Olive.

Jordan and his wife Sarah have five children. Daughters Avalene, Aubrey and Alexa and sons Grayson and Hudson are all under 12 years of age. He joined the firm two years ago. In addition to his legal work, Jordan has recently re-opened Jordan Geomatics, PLLC. His legal focus is criminal law, construction law, wills and estates, debt collection, boundary disputes and personal injury.

Huffer, a 2012 Tullahoma High School graduate, graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee Law School.

Prior to joining the Tullahoma law firm, he practiced law in Murfreesboro and Nashville where he represented Federal Express, Home Depot, State Farm and Tennessee Farm Bureau among others. Most recently, he was Smyrna Ready Mix Concrete’s in-house labor counsel before being promoted to overseeing all litigation for the company across 21 states.

Ironically, Huffer’s mock trial coach at THS is his current law partner Bill Rieder. Kathy Rieder, Bill’s wife, was his AP U.S. History teacher who oversaw the mock trial team.

Huffer and his wife Shannon Huffer (formerly Reagan) welcomed their first child in June. Mrs. Huffer is a Physician Assistant at the Pediatric Center of Tullahoma. Huffer’s legal focus is trucking accident cases, labor and employment cases, construction defect cases and county government work.

According to Huffer, “Tullahoma is by far and away one of the best places to raise a family in middle Tennessee. I am excited to be back and contribute to our community where I can.”

According to Bill Rieder, “We are most fortunate to have two outstanding attorneys like Derek and Matthew join our firm, which will enable us to continue the long tradition this firm has of providing the highest quality of legal services for our clients. I am extremely happy that both of them decided to come back to Tullahoma to pursue their legal careers with this firm and look forward to practicing with them.”

Hull, Ray, Rieder, Lane, Jordan and Huffer is located at 214 NE Atlantic Street.
