It was a fine Saturday morning to go for a run as several hundred runners ran their way through downtown Tullahoma for the Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce’s sixth annual Wobble Gobble 5K.
According to the TACC President and Race Director James Fuller, this year’s Wobble Gobble saw 482 runners register, and 399 crossing the finish line.
“It was just a great experience,” Fuller said. “All the participants seemed to have a great time.”
TACC Executive Director Hope Nunley said alongside the participants were their friends and family to cheer them on, downtown Tullahoma had well over 500 people.
“It is a major tourism event for bringing people into downtown Tullahoma,” Nunley stated. “It was a great race and every single person who participated said how much they enjoyed it, how much fun they had and what a great event it was.”
Both Nunley and Fuller gave their thanks to the Wobble Gobble’s sponsors, as well as the volunteers and race committee for helping to organize the event.
In addition to the race was the return of Runners Row, where several nonprofit organizations and businesses got the chance to set up booths at the finish line. Some of these included Mobile Mountain Massage doing cheer massages, Chick-fil-a handing out meal courts and Sherrill Pest Control handing out goodie bags.
“The feeling downtown was very vibrant and enthusiastic,” Nunley said. “Just a lot a fun.”
During the Wobble Gobble 5K, runners ran through parts of downtown that highlighted several businesses and notable locations like the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, South Jackson Performing Arts Center, multiple historic downtown churches, City Hall, History Park and so on.
Though serving as the race director, Fuller said since everything pre-race was running smoothly, he put on his running shoes and took off with the rest of the participants.
“I use it as an opportunity to thank the volunteers that are on the course,” Fuller said. “I don’t necessarily get a chance to see them all together.”
Fuller added participating helped him experience what the runners were experiencing as a way to make sure that everyone was having fun.
“It was so fun to look around and see the smiles on people’s faces,” he said.
Running in the Wobble Gobble 5K also gave Fuller the chance to hear from other runners, several of which stated it was their first 5K, and even hearing from someone that they were ready to go for track next year.
“It’s those inspiring stories that let us know that it’s not just a fundraising event, it’s an event that hopefully changing people’s lies and helping them be a better version of themselves,” Fuller said.
As for this year’s winners, in the Overall Male category was Sean Giffin in first place, followed by Grant Mizell in second and Brodie Howard in third. For the Overall Female category, Hawley Cheney took first place with Braelynn Thompson in second and Avery Blackwell in third.
