An amateur radio license examination session will be offered by the Middle Tennessee Amateur Radio Society this Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 9 a.m., at the Coffee County Emergency Operations Center, 300 Hillsboro Boulevard, in Manchester. The doors will open for registration at 8:30 a.m.

Examinations for all three license classes, Technician, General, and Extra, will be offered. The exam fee is $15.00.  Those upgrading their license class must bring their existing license, photo identification, and their FCC-issued Federal Registration Number (FRN). Due to the current Federal government shutdown, FRNs are not currently being issued and new licensees will need to register for an FRN in the FCC CORES system online here when the shutdown ends. All license applications will be held for processing until that time. 

Amateur radio operators proctoring the exam session are certified by the FCC and the American Radio Relay League, the National Association for Amateur Radio. Current licensees must bring a copy of their current license.  Prospective licensees who successfully complete the entry level Technician class exam may opt to take the next higher license class exam at no additional cost. MTARS will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room behind the First Presbyterian Church, 204 East Grundy Street, in Tullahoma. The meeting room is accessible from the church parking lot off of East Lincoln Street. A program on amateur radio technology will precede the club’s 7:30 p.m. business meeting.
