Drivers get licenses restored

Saturday is typically not a busy day at the Coffee County Judicial Center in Manchester. However, Saturday, Nov. 15, was an exceptionally busy day.

In an effort to help the approximately 7,000 individuals in Coffee County that have received Driving on Revoked or Suspended License citations, Coffee County Circuit Court Clerk Jenny Anthony led an effort to help these individuals get their licenses reinstated.

29 individuals participated in the Driver’s License Fair. Of the 29, eight walked out with driver’s license in hand. The other 21 have requirements that still need to be met before earning their license.

Five judges participated in the Driver’s License Fair including Circuit Court Judge Robert Carter, Circuit Court Judge Will Lockhart, General Sessions Judge Gerald Ewell, General Sessions Judge Greg Perry and Manchester City Judge Shawn Trail.

The State of Tennessee DMV driver’s license testing bus was on site prepared to test and issue licenses upon successful completion of all requirements.

Legal Aid and Coffee County Recovery Court had booths set up at the event.

“This was a first time event for everyone involved including DMV employees. This has not been done in any other county in middle Tennessee. I am very pleased with the outcome. It was a very enlightening and enjoyable event to see folks reach goals that did not seem possible,” said Anthony.

Another Driver’s License Fair is planned for spring.
