Oakwood Cemetery comes alive with historic walk

On a typically quiet Friday evening, Oakwood Cemetery will come alive, rhetorically speaking, thanks to Coffee County Lannom Memorial Public Library.

The library is hosting an “Oakwood Cemetery Walk” this Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cemetery is located at 708 North Jackson Street on the corner of North Jackson Street and Wilson Avenue.

According to Library Director Courtney Mercurio, “This is an opportunity to step into Tullahoma’s past with a lantern lit walk through historic Oakwood Cemetery. As dusk falls, hear captivating stories of the people and events that shaped Tullahoma while uncovering intriguing cemetery facts along the way. The atmospheric evening program is designed for adults and teens who appreciate history with a haunting edge.”

The walk will be led by Lannom librarian Alisha Bush in partnership with local historian Dr. Michael R. Bradley. The walk will explore the stories and significance of some of Tullahoma’s early residents.

Guests will carry soft glow paper lanterns provided by the library as they follow along the walk’s path. The program is designed to be reflective and family friendly. Parking options will be posted on the library’s Facebook page.

The walk is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
