Beginning Friday, Sept. 19, Tullahoma City Schools will implement a clear bag policy for all home athletic events at the middle and high school levels. This change will start at Tullahoma High School’s next home football game against Nolensville.
“Tullahoma High School is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all students, families, and guests who attend our athletic events and activities,” said Dr. Greg English, Tullahoma High School Principal. “Implementing a clear bag policy allows us to enhance security and ensure that our facilities remain safe places where the focus can remain on supporting our students. Whether it’s cheering on the Wildcats at the stadium or attending athletic events across the district, this policy helps provide peace of mind so that everyone can simply enjoy watching our students compete and perform.”
This policy will be enforced at every TCS home athletic event for middle and high school sports moving forward.
“In an effort to try and improve safety at athletic events, TCS will be moving to a clear bag policy for all home athletic contests,” said TCS Athletic Director John Olive. “Several counties in Tennessee have similar policies at athletic events, and we contacted some of those school districts with those in place to gather more information. After some discussions, we as a district felt it was time to make this change, and this clear bag policy will officially go into place at all athletic events starting on Sept. 19.”
Clear tote bags made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC that do not exceed 12x6x12 will be allowed into athletic facilities. Additionally, one-gallon clear plastic bags will be permitted. Medical bags that have been approved for medical purposes are permitted after inspection.
Backpacks, fanny packs, duffel bags, coolers, briefcases, diaper bags, and luggage of any kind will not be allowed into the facility.
“We strive to provide safe spaces for all and believe Tullahoma City Schools instituting this clear bag policy for athletic events is a positive adjustment for student and visitor safety,” said Dr. Catherine Stephens, TCS Director of Schools. “TCS is not the first district to implement this policy, as some of our neighboring counties have had this in effect for several years. We appreciate the support of our students, staff, families and community with this new clear bag policy. We look forward to joining you as we cheer on our Wildcats, Bobcats and Panthers.”
