Wesley Heights opens Mother’s Day Out program

The Wesley Heights United Methodist Church has opened up registration for its Wesley’s Sprouts Mother’s Day Out.

According to Secretary Gail Bryant, the decision was made for the church to establish a Mother’s Out Program was due to the need of having one. A Mother’s Day Out program is a part-time child care program that’s commonly offered by churches.

“We have a lady that’s a pre-kindergarten teacher and she said, ‘Tullahoma definitely needs more,’” Bryant said. “That’s how it got started.”

From there, Coordinator LaDon Cortez, who’s a teacher, helped to get the program set up and running for its opening in August. Bryant said as of now it has been word of mouth and they have about 11 children enrolled between the ages of two to four.

“You can’t ask for a better teacher than LaDon,” Bryant said. “She’s just awesome. You couldn’t have asked for somebody any better to bring your kids to be over.”

Since its opening, the children have been active with various arts and crafts activities, learning the alphabet and how to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. This past week, the children got to enjoy a water day with a bounce house water slide and some ice cream too.

The program is Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Welsey Heights United Methodist Church, located at 2101 E. Lincoln St. Anyone interested in learning more can call the church at 931-455-3988 or call Cortez at 931-308-9947.
