Piñatas win third straight game

There is a jumble in the middle of the standings of the Tullahoma Adult baseball league after Monday’s slate of games. Here are the results from those games.

Reds vs Royals

The Reds continue to roll past the competition, with a 5-3 win over the Royals.

The Reds combined for 10 hits, with center fielder Clay Burnett leading the way with three knocks. They have shown through five games that they are a consistent offensive unit. In each game this year, they have put up at least five runs. In this contest against the Royals, they were able to keep the Royals offense at bay with some solid pitching from their two pitchers. They combined for five strikeouts and also combined for five hits allowed.

The Reds, with the win, stay in the top spot of the standings with a 5-1 record, while the Royals are in fourth place with a 3-3 record.

Athletics vs Outlaws

The Outlaws are still in search of their first win, losing on Monday night to the Athletics 12-8.

Runs were not hard to come by for the two teams. In five innings, the two teams combined for 10 hits and 17 walks. The Athletics were able to break out and establish a lead in the fourth inning. They put up a five-spot, and a lot of it was the Outlaws doing. They walked three batters in the frame, and four of the five runs in the inning were scored due to errors. This gave the Athletics a 9-3 lead, which, despite some offensive output from the Outlaws after, they were able to secure their second win of the season.

Two players that stood out for the Athletics were Jordan Welker and Cameron Peppers. Peppers had the most hits in the game with two, and Welker had the most RBIs with three.

The Athletics’ record with the win is now 2-4, and the Outlaws sit at the bottom of the pack with a 0-6 record.

Piñatas vs Shovels

The Piñatas won their third straight game, beating the Shovels 7-6 on Thursday.

The Shovels opened up the scoring with one run in the first inning, but the Piñatas fired back with a big answer in the top of the second. They put up six runs on the scoreboard in the frame. Four of the six runs were from RBI hits by Trevor Sanders and Luke Davidson–Sanders hit a two RBI single and Davidson hit a two RBI triple.

The Shovels did respond after the big inning by the Piñatas. They tied the game by putting up five runs in the bottom of the third. Both teams then went scoreless in the fourth, and the Piñatas then tacked on the deciding run at the top of the fifth. This came from an error by the Shovels’ third baseman that allowed Ryan Edwards on the Piñatas to go and score the game-deciding run.

The Piñatas, after starting the season 0-3, are now 3-3. The Shovels with the loss are now 4-2 on the year.
