The Wait
K
I recently had a conversation with someone about the struggle we all have when in a season of waiting. Maybe you are waiting on a child, a spouse, a new career, a lab report and the list goes on. One of the hardest lessons God taught me came in the midst of a pause. My husband and I longed for a child, we did all the right things, we prayed fervently, we met with doctors, and we even tried to “forget” about the arduous season we were in. In all the things we did and didn’t do, God still made us wait almost three years for our first promise from Him.
The lesson of longsuffering was one that we did not ask for, yet it has become one the greatest of my life. In the season of waiting, you are reminded of your source through ever deep breath, tear and worried thought. “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.” 1 Corinthians 8:6. If you are currently in the hallway of life seeking that next door to open, you only need to look behind you. God is your source! He knew the desires of mine and my husband’s hearts because He placed them there, but it is His timing that becomes the key to that door up ahead. I know it has become cliché to say, “In God’s timing…”, but if life seems motionless you truly must lean into this unfailing truth. “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:8-9.
When I look back at the three-year journey of frustration, let downs, break downs and heartache I realized what seemed like eternity to us was just a miniscule moment in time to God. He already knows what tomorrow holds and throughout scripture commands us over and over to not worry about what is to come, yet we all fall short to the voice through our pain. If you are reading this today and are currently awaiting God to move on a situation in your life, take a breath. Take a long deep breath simply reflecting on the faithfulness He has shown through other trials you have faced. Take that deep breath knowing Who filled your lungs with air. Take a deep breath and understand that what feels like a lifetime to you is but one small breath in your direction from Him. When God releases you from this lesson of waiting, you will look back and see that the door that seemed as if it would never open was always yours to walk through.
That door of change, increase, healing, restoration, recovery, forgiveness, promises and revelation has already been assigned to your dwelling and if you peek in your pocket, you will see that you even hold the key that unlocks it. God does not desire for us to worry about who, what, when and where our breakthrough will come because if you trust in Him, you will never have to wonder if it’s possible. I must say that the longsuffering did not end after the birth of our daughter. God continues to place desires and dreams on my heart that have caused me to stand in the hallways of life for quite some time. But through each circumstance God continues to mold me, grow me and create a resilience in me that cannot be learned in the path of easy.
What do you do in your hallway today? You begin thanking God in advance for that open door ahead! Declare your faith by shouting that with the key (Jesus) you hold, ALL things are possible! Please trust me when I say that I know it is hard – I’m sitting in that hallway with you right now. But in His perfect timing, God will unlock the door to every promise spoken over your life that no man can shut!
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19.
Blessings,
Kayla
