The roof isn’t on fire but it still needs to be replaced at the Tullahoma Fire Station to the tune of $70,448.

The quote came from Barrett Construction for the roof replacement at fire hall 2. The work will involve replacing the existing roof which is a pitched roof. The existing roof was put into place 17 years ago, according to Tullahoma Fire Chief Kenneth Pearson.

“Over the past 17 years its had sagging and dipping and leaks,” Pearson revealed. “This is going to be a complete tear off. They are going to put three-quarter inch plywood on it and re-shingle.”

The chief pointed out that normal wear and tear on a shingle roof is 15 to 20 years, meaning the present roof has reached its expected lifespan. The chief added they are staying with a shingle roof because it blends in with the neighborhood where the fire hall is located.

The measure passed 6-0.
