A Coffee County man has been arrested on multiple counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor for allegedly collecting and disbursing child porn on Discord.

The suspect, Mikkel Evans, 35, of Hillsboro, has been charged with six counts of aggravated exploitation of a minor. The charge, in the case of Evans, is a Class C Felony which can carry three-to-six years in prison.

Lawmen began checking on Evans’ online activity this past month and were able to get a search warrant for his Discord account. Discord is a communication platform primarily used for building communities and connecting with others through voice, video, and text-based chat. It’s popular for both large public communities and smaller, private groups, often centered around shared interests like gaming, but also used for various other activities.

The search warrant discovered that Evans had downloaded six separate videos of child pornography to his account. He was then called in for questioning and tendered a confession to investigators.

“Mr. Evans admitted to downloading and distributing over 20 videos through Discord,” the warrant reads.

Under state law, Evans may have stopped just short of committing a Class B felony as 25 violations could have had him looking at eight to 12 years. The code reads that “A violation of this section is a Class C felony; however, if the number of individual images, materials, or combination of images and materials, that are promoted, sold, distributed, transported, purchased, exchanged or possessed, with intent to promote, sell, distribute, transport, purchase or exchange, is more than twenty-five (25), then the offense shall be a Class B felony.”
