Serendipity on a sidewalk

ROBERTA NEE ADAMSStaff Writer

There have been some wonderful, whimsical creatures appearing on sidewalks around Tullahoma. These happy little animals and creatures have been seen enjoying Sundrop, fireworks, reunions, and the holiday, often with their little friends.  Most recently they have appeared in front of Clayton’s Shoes, the Sundrop Shoppe, and Daddy Billy’s. There have been other sidewalk chalk pictures appearing in the past year at these same places, as well as Star Physical Therapy.

The pictures are the work of artist Sherry Seely. Sherry grew up in Tullahoma, and graduated from THS, Motlow College, and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She had lived in Austin, TX, for the past few years, and returned to Tullahoma last year.

In high school Sherry had an affinity for country music, and started drawing portraits of country music artists. Early on she worked mostly in pencil or pen and ink. Sherry does portrait work, both with people and with pets. About ten years ago she started doing pictures with chalk. She did sidewalk chalk pictures while in Austin, and has continued doing them, brightening Tullahoma’s sidewalks since she returned. Most of the sidewalk pictures Sherry does are copies of the works of David Zinn, a street artist in New York, and an artist whose style she particularly likes.

Sherry played basketball in high school and college. While in college, she started refereeing sports, including basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, and club ball. She referees for school sports, both high school and college, and has been a referee for forty six years now. Considering the range of sports she referees, she stays quite busy.

Sherry is available for creating private portraits, for both people and pets, or even some sidewalk art for birthday parties or celebrations. She has an amazing portfolio to peruse. Sherry may be contacted by email at sherryseely13@hotmail.com.

When not calling games, or drawing some delightful characters on sidewalks, Sherry enjoys riding her Honda Gull Wing with her little co-pilot Scout.
