Wildcats’ head coach featured in Baseball Digest
GRAY DEYOSports Writer
The head coach for the Tullahoma Baseball team Bryan Morris was just featured in a recent edition of Baseball Digest. It is the longest-running baseball magazine in the USA. They cover and write about the best stories in the MLB, minor leagues, and college baseball.
Former player and now current head coach Morris has had a storybook career. The hometown kid from Tullahoma, after having an amazing career with the Wildcats, went on to play at Motlow College. In his lone season for the Bucks in 2006, he dominated. He finished the year with a 10-1 record, a 0.82 ERA, and after the season had the third most strikeouts in a single season in school history–108 Ks.
This elite play from Morris put him on the radar of MLB scouts. He went on to get drafted in the first round as the 26th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Even with Morris playing at a junior college his talent was undeniable. It just goes to show that anyone can make it from anywhere.
In the majors, Morris had a solid career. He appeared in 231 games, had a 3.13 ERA, and had 168 strikeouts. In 2017 after a 12-year career, he ended up retiring mainly due to back injuries. This eventually led him to take the Tullahoma job, in 2019-2020.
Morris since arriving back on campus as a coach has helped make Tullahoma a powerhouse program. The Wildcats have not lost under 25 games during his tenure, and in the 2024 season, Tullahoma won its first state title since 1990.
Morris’ story is one worth telling, hence why Baseball Digest featured the Tullahoma head coach.
“Being featured in Baseball Digest is a tremendous honor,” Coach Morris said.
“It’s not something I ever expected, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share my story and represent our program on a national stage. Baseball has been a huge part of my life, from my years as a player to now coaching and helping young athletes grow both on and off the field. To see our work and commitment recognized by such a respected publication really means a lot—not just for me, but for our players, coaches, and the entire Tullahoma community. It’s a reminder that what we’re doing here matters, and it motivates me to keep pushing our program forward. I hope this feature inspires our players to chase their goals and shows them that dedication and passion for the game can lead to amazing opportunities.”
