Coffee County Democrats to host ‘Free America’ events in Tullahoma

The Coffee County Democratic Party (CCDP) will be hosting a “Free America” Protest this Saturday, July 5, outside of Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma from 10 to 11 a.m.

According to CCDP Chair Mike Stein, the purpose of the protest is to promote democracy, freedom, and civil rights. Participants are encouraged to make signs concerning wealth inequality and systems that are rigged in favor of the rich, such as the “Big Beautiful Bill” or Gov. Bill Lee’s $1.5 billion tax break to large corporations that is creating a statewide tax revenue shortfall. Anyone interested in making signs for the event can come to Frazier McEwen Park on July 4 starting at 5 p.m.

At the conclusion of the protest, all of the attendees will march from Oakwood Cemetery to Pavilion #1 at Frazier McEwen Park for the CCDP Free America Potluck and Stuff the Bus event. Everyone attending the event at the park is encouraged to bring food and drink items to share with others, as well as any board games, card games, and yard games that you’d like to play. Pavilion #1 is right next to the playground, so the kids are certainly welcome to attend.

“Right now, many families in Coffee County are struggling to get by,” Stein said. “With rising costs driven by economic uncertainty, not to mention stagnant wages, getting kids ready for school is harder than it should be.”

He added that’s why the Coffee County Democratic Party is helping with United Way for the 2025 Stuff the Bus campaign.

“Please bring school supplies to the Free America Potluck,” Stein said. “Making sure every kid starts the school year with the supplies they need is one small but meaningful way we take care of each other. It’s how we invest in our neighbors and in the future we all share because, in Coffee County, we take care of each other.”
