Pole position – Phone pole slows Kings Lane completion

A telecommunication line has placed the improvement project at Kings Lane and Country Club Drive on hold for the time being.

Tullahoma City Administrator Jason Quick told the board of mayor and aldermen at their last meeting that work has come along very smoothly at the intersection. The intersection is being improved to alleviate issues with traffic during school days and it was hoped the project would be completed before school starts at the end of the month.

However, Quick said that a single utility pole will hold up the completion. Specifically, it is a pole that holds AT&T and Charter services. AT&T has communicated that it cannot relocate those services for about six to eight weeks, therefore the pole cannot be moved.

“The project cannot be 100 percent until the pole is removed,” Quick revealed, noting that all other work is being completed on the intersection improvement while they wait for AT&T to relocate their service. “We are doing everything we can do up to that point.”

While the pole issue was address by Quick, he also fielded questions from aldermen concerning other work that needs doing in Tullahoma. Busch Thoma questioned him about striping for Anderson Street near city hall.

“When it gets night, you can’t see,” Thoma pointed to the safety issue that will require striping on Anderson.

Quick responded that Anderson Street is on the fall road improvement schedule. However, the contractor will not be able to start the schedule until September or October due to other obligations. In the meantime, Quick said city road crews are doing what they can in the area of paving, patching and repair.

On the subject of roads, Quick said Big Springs is supposed to open in time for school to begin. The patch of Big Springs near the school has been closed as part of the ongoing construction project on Wilson – a project which is not due for completion until 2027.
