Andrew Fulmer named as a top three finalists for Mr. Baseball
GRAY DEYOSports Writer
After being named the District MVP a couple of weeks ago, senior Wildcat Andrew Fulmer adds another nomination to his name, and it is a big one. Fulmer was listed as one of the three finalists for the Mr. Baseball award in Tennessee.
Fulmer, the star senior for the Wildcats, has put together one of the best induvial seasons in the state. He leads the Wildcats in batting average (.488), RBIs (48), and homeruns (6). He has also been one of the best pitchers on the team, in his limited innings, having a 0.95 ERA in seven appearances.
The senior’s standout season has been a crucial part of this Tullahoma team making it back to state for a second consecutive season. He will have a chance to boost his chances of earning this award in the state tournament, as the games will take place before the award is given out.
The winner of the award will be announced on May 20 at the Family Worship Center in Murfreesboro.
The other candidates
The two other nominees up for the award are Alex Bedford from Lawrence County and Carson Quillen from Greeneville High School.
Bedford put together an outstanding year in his senior season for Lawrence. In 37 games, he had a .523 batting average, 47 RBIs, and 10 home runs. His team finished the season with a 20-17 overall record and finished second in their district with a 6-4 record. Bedford is committed to play for the 2024 College World Series Champs, Tennessee Vols, next year.
The senior for the Greene Devils, Quillen will be a part of this year’s state tournament like Fulmer. The Devils finished the season with a 29-8 record, and finished first in their district with an 11-0 record. Quillen won state with Greeneville the year before the Wildcats in 2023. He has been recognized as one of the best baseball players in TN throughout his whole high school career. He committed to play baseball at Virginia Tech back in 2023, but is now reconsidering his initial commitment. His love for football seems to have a large part in it–he was named as a finalist for Mr. Football this past season.
